UpMetrics Launches New Reporting Module: Purpose-Built Tool Transforms Reporting from Compliance Burden into Strategic Asset

Collaborative, end-to-end reporting solution eliminates fragmented workflows; customers report higher quality data, deeper insights, and 60% average reduction in reporting time.

San Francisco, California, October 1, 2026 — UpMetrics today announced the general availability of Reporting, a new module within the UpMetrics platform built to replace the patchwork of tools impact investors, foundations, and nonprofits use to collect, analyze, and act on impact data. The launch follows a nine-month Early Access period in which those organizations helped shape the product directly.

"Impact reporting has been stuck in the past," said Drew Payne, CEO of UpMetrics. "For too long, it's meant a once-a-year, one-way submission into scattered spreadsheets and PDFs, with no way to collaborate or close the feedback loop. By the time insights surface, the moment to act has passed. Information and relationships are what move mission-driven work forward, and UpMetrics brings everyone involved into one shared workspace, turning reporting into an ongoing conversation that drives better decisions on both sides so funding reaches the organizations doing the work faster."

A Market Built on Workarounds

The gap Reporting fills is well documented. According to Impact Capital Managers' 2025 report, "Impact Data as a Value Driver: Company Perspectives and Practice,” 73% of companies still manage impact data in spreadsheets like Excel, and most are only neutral, at best, about their current process. And even though 76% of companies that collect impact data call it valuable, less than half are using it to adjust operations or strategy, or raise additional funds - proof that the problem isn't the data itself. It's the tools built to collect and leverage it effectively.

Co-Built With Customers, Not Just for Them

UpMetrics didn't build this module in a vacuum. Over nine months of Early Access, foundation, nonprofit, and investor clients shaped it directly, from how workflows are structured to how the platform handles mid-cycle data changes. It was co-development, not beta testing.

"This launch reflects years of listening to our customers, and nearly a year of building alongside them," said Payne. "We wanted to turn reporting from a compliance checkbox into something that drives real strategy and learning. That's what was missing from the market, and that's what we've delivered."

Key Features:

  • One workflow, start to finish. The platform manages question design, data collection, revisions, and analysis without switching tools.
  • Built for both sides. A shared platform experience gives requesting and submitting organizations version control and collaborative access to data, so everyone learns together.
  • Consistent data, flexible forms. Reusable questions and forms adjust by organization, program, or cycle, and refined wording never breaks data continuity.
  • Submission tracking. Clear status tracking and reminders cut down on manual follow-ups.
  • Insights ready for action. Paired with Advanced Analytics, submissions become live dashboards that support everything from board reports to strategic pivots.

Results That Go Beyond Time Saved

Early Access customers cut reporting time by 60%, on average, compared to spreadsheet- and survey-based workflows. But the value runs deeper than speed. Organizations using UpMetrics report:

  • Real-time visibility into submission status, replacing manual email chasing
  • Higher data quality through structured workflows and built-in feedback loops
  • Faster insights by removing the manual data-wrangling that delays decisions
  • Stronger relationships with external stakeholders and partner organizations, built on shared access and transparency

"The exercise of impact reporting has become a powerful tool for collaboration with our portfolio companies," said Tom Woelfel, Senior Director of Impact at HCAP Partners, an UpMetrics client since 2022. "Being able to dynamically visualize company data in UpMetrics has helped management see where the opportunities are to improve job quality and enabled us to provide more tailored support to companies to enhance retention, increase productivity, and drive long-term growth."

The result: reporting shifts from a compliance exercise to a shared learning process, with both sides spending less time on admin and more time acting on what the data shows.

"Partnering with solution providers like UpMetrics gives us the infrastructure to hold company-specific metrics and portfolio-wide workforce data in one place, so our team spends time where it counts, with our portfolio," said Kelsey Jarrett, Director of Impact at SJF Ventures, one of the Early Access participants. "It's important to us that the process centers on adding value to our portfolio companies, not just reducing our own reporting burden."
