UpMetrics Releases Next Generation of Stories, Making Qualitative Impact Data as Measurable as the Numbers
Now significantly expanded, UpMetrics' Stories feature lets foundations, nonprofits, and impact investors capture, code, and analyze qualitative data alongside their quantitative metrics, all in one platform.
San Francisco, CA - August 6, 2026. UpMetrics, the impact reporting platform built for the social sector, today announced a major expansion of their Stories feature. The update turns the narratives behind impact (testimonials, photos, interviews, field reports, etc.) into structured data that organizations can analyze and report on alongside their quantitative metrics.
For mission-driven organizations, the most compelling evidence of impact has long been the hardest to work with. Stories, testimonials, and other qualitative datapoints usually live in documents, emails and spreadsheets, disconnected from the dashboards where teams track their numbers, and analyzing them at scale has meant hours of manual cleanup or leaving them out of reporting altogether.
"For too long, one of the most important parts of impact has lived outside the data: the narrative of who was reached and what changed. The power of story is real, and now our partners can measure it. With expanded Stories, they can analyze their qualitative evidence individually or across an entire portfolio, surface the trends that matter, and act on them," said Drew Payne, CEO at UpMetrics.
The original Stories let teams capture qualitative evidence and present it alongside their metrics, so the numbers and the narrative lived together. But customers wanted to do more than store and curate that evidence. They wanted to label, categorize, and analyze it without leaving the platform. This expansion answers that directly, making the qualitative data itself measurable, not just displayed next to the numbers.
With the new release of Stories, teams capture qualitative datapoints from any source, directly or by bulk import, then code and analyze them without ever leaving the platform. The expansion enables organizations to:
- Capture the full context of every story: title, summary, date, program, content type, sentiment, links, and file attachments like images, video, and audio.
- Build a consistent taxonomy of codes and categories that scales across every program, grant, or investment, so a theme means the same thing everywhere.
- Analyze qualitative data in Advanced Analytics, filtering by code, sentiment, or content type and combining it with quantitative metrics, with no exporting or separate coding software required.
UpMetrics developed the expanded Stories feature in close collaboration with design partners and early adopter clients, running an Early Access program with leading philanthropic organizations, including the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. Feedback from across the program shaped improvements aimed squarely at real-world impact measurement challenges, and participants called the result a meaningful step forward from the company's earlier qualitative tools, singling out the structured coding system, program associations, and bulk import as standout gains. They pointed both to how much easier the experience had become and the long-standing gap it addresses for the sector.
